Browns Bay holds several free community events and ‘shop local’ promotions each year to involve and thank the  community for their loyalty to our local businesses, as well as and attracting visitors from further afield. Our signature event is the annual Browns Bay Christmas Parade which attracts up to 10,000 visitors. We also love having outdoor movies on the beach reserve in a perfect summertime setting, and Father’s Day Boys Toys (first Sunday in September) is becoming a very popular recurring family event.

Artist’s Tale – Whale Tales 2022

February 19 @ 3:00 pm 4:00 pm UTC+12

Meet Jane Mason, artist of ‘Where You Belong’, one of 80 unique and stunning whale tail installations on display in parks and open spaces around greater Auckland (Orewa to Pukekohe) this summer.

Local resident, accomplished international artist, and creator of the Browns Bay whale tail installation, Jane will talk to us about her inspirations for her design and how you too can develop and express your creative love for nature.

*** The first 100 people to collect ‘Where You Belong’ on the Whale Tales mobile app (download from App Store or Google Play) from 3pm on 19 February will receive a FREE LIMITED EDITION PRINT signed by Jane Mason courtesy of sponsor SBA Small Business Accounting *** They will be handed out at the site of the tail.

Whale Tales art trail is brought to us by WWF-New Zealand, Wild in Art and Auckland Unlimited to showcase 80 unique tails by 80 NZ artists while increasing our awareness of the endangered Bryde’s (pronounced Broo-dus) Whale and the deteriorating state of the Hauraki Gulf.

Download the Whale Tales app at App Store or Google Play and collect as many tails as you can. Trail maps are available at Browns Bay shops and East Coast Bays library, or the App can guide you to the tails. Collect rewards as you go.

Have a WHALE of a time on the trail between now and 18 April 2022!
