John and Pauline Purdon moved from Glasgow to Rothesay Bay in 1997. As the new owners of The Clyde (formerly Velvet Gypsy) they arguably offer customers the best of both worlds:  high professional standards (honed during more than 30 years in corporate) combined with warm Scottish hospitality. “We want our patrons to enjoy an old-fashioned, cosy experience here,” smiled Pauline, “which is why we’ve great ranges of gins, rums and single malts.”

John continues, “We’ve already made some upgrades to the bar area, and we’re planning to renovate the restaurant in the next few months.”

Part of the bar upgrade is an eye-catching painting.  John and Pauline posted an appeal on Facebook for budding artists – and were overwhelmed by the quality of the response! The young artist who won the competition hand painted her original work onto the wall over about 40 hours. “It was amazing to watch her work, and we’re so pleased with the result!”
